Hurrah it’s Christmas

Really Adrian, Really?

Yeah why not – I love Christmas. I’m on-call over this Christmas holiday as well but I’m still looking forward to it. The plan this year is to spend Christmas lunch with my family, Christmas tea with Caroline’s family and then spend Boxing day just on our own chilling out and eating. As I’m on-call I’ll be driving on Christmas day so that takes away some of the stress of travelling about to see both families because there’s no discussion, as there often is between couples, over who is driving.

I’m lucky, I enjoy spending time with my family and seeing my nephews and nieces enjoying Christmas and even if there is a little bit of family stress I can usually just filter it out and enjoy myself. The one thing I miss is decent TV. I remember back when I was a kid that there would always be something cool to watch James Bond on Boxing day anyone? Nowadays I’m really not into TV at all so that probably doesn’t help things but I really don’t get that festive feel from TV at all.

Hopefully at some point, we have the weekend after Christmas and then I have three days off as well giving us a nice long holiday, I’ll be able to find some serious gaming time. I have so much to play at the moment that I really want to sink my teeth into. The Steam sale never helps here, I’ve already bought three games and I’m sure some more irresistible bargains will come up before the sale is over. Plus I treated myself to Far Cry 4 for my birthday and I still haven’t properly got into Elite Dangerous.

The only sad thing is that Christmas signals the end of the year and I am slightly disappointed about what I have achieved this year. I set myself a couple of goals for 2014, get to 100 subs on YouTube and write a blog post a week. I’ve missed both of those and even though they are totally superficial goals I really wanted to try and hit them. I’ll set myself the same goals for 2015 but as I am at 60 subs on YouTube I’ll need to make that target higher. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like I (we, because I couldn’t have done it without Caroline) haven’t achieved anything this year. We completely refurbished our house with just a little DIY left to do and I also got out of a job that I really disliked and am going to start something new in 2015. The reason I set these goals for myself is that I really want to be able to stop working for a living in my current career and do something else. These goals were to help me take some (admittedly) baby steps to changing my career and working somehow in the world of video games. That’s why I am disappointed but I’m not put off, I’m going to continue plodding away at it.

Have a great Christmas and make sure you play more video games.
